Diversity

Thunder Bay is a diverse city which also a hub for First Nation communities in North Western Ontario.  The Thunder Bay Police Service Aboriginal Liaison Unit is part of the Community Policing Branch.  We have two officers dedicated to the unit which is part of our ongoing effort to work with our growing Aboriginal community here in Thunder Bay.

We also have strong ties to the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association and Diversity Thunder Bay.  As a regional hub for Northwestern Ontario, Thunder Bay is becoming home to many cultures.  We continue to look for opportunities to better understand the people we serve and protect.

Our Liaison Unit officers each have a unique role in building bridges with our community.  Constable John Walmark participates in outreach activities aimed at promoting awareness of the ALU to enhance working relationships with the Thunder Bay Police Service.  Constable Larry Baxter is our Cultural Diversity Officers who monitors incidents which were committed against a person or property which are motivated in whole or in part by hate/bias or prejudice. He will also work with community resources to facilitate cultural awareness training for the Thunder Bay Police Service and coordinate and deliver prevention and educational training to the community at large.
