Social Media assists the Thunder Bay Police Service to:

  • provide an opportunity for the public to learn about the role of the Thunder Bay Police Service in their community.
  • provide an important and direct link between the community and the Thunder Bay Police Service, with an opportunity for constructive communication.
  • to increase our involvement with the community we serve.

Thunder Bay Police Social Media Policy:

Social Media accounts used by the Thunder Bay Police Service are not monitored 24/7 and should not be used for emergencies or for filing reports.  The Thunder Bay Police Services does not take reports of crime via email or any social media site.  In case of an emergency, always call 911.

To file a non-emergency police report, you must call the Thunder Bay Police Service at 684-1200 or visit the Thunder Bay Police Service at 1200 Balmoral Street or you may wish to report on-line, please see the link to on-line reporting.  If you wish to remain anonymous, please call Crime Stoppers at (807) 623-8477 or send a tip online at tipsubmit.com.

Privacy

To protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, please do not include personal information in your online interactions, including posting or linking to names, addresses,  phone numbers, email addresses or case number references.

Any information collected or provided through third party social media websites is for Thunder Bay Police Service use only.  Information collected by the Thunder Bay Police Service is pursuant to its authority under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Ontario Police Services Act.  Questions about the collection of the personal information should be directed to the Thunder Bay Police Service.

Comments

The Thunder Bay Police Service reserves the right to edit, remove or block comments/users that it deems at its sole discretion to be inappropriate or likely to impede the normal flow of discussion, including but not limited to comments that are abusive, insulting, inaccurate, irrelevant or incomprehensible.  Thunder Bay Police Service may also remove comments that are posted by a user who is not the author.

User comments do not represent the view of the Thunder Bay Police Service or the City of Thunder Bay.  Thunder Bay Police Service monitors user comments and may participate or remove comments.  If applicable, comments may be held for moderation and will be addressed at the discretion of the Thunder Bay Police Service.
