Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)

This is a name-based check for criminal convictions and includes outstanding charges, warrants and judicial orders stored in the RCMP database and/or available from a local police agency’s records management system or other systems/records where authorized; PLUS a query of the Pardoned Sex Offender Registry which is a check for sexual offence convictions for which the individual has received a Records Suspension (Pardon) where authorized by the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

NOTE: This check is restricted to applicants seeking employment and/or volunteering in a position of authority or trust relative to vulnerable persons in Canada only.

This check will include the following information as it exists on the date of the search:

  • Any criminal convictions from CPIC and/or local databases
  • Summary convictions for 5 years, when identified
  • Local Findings of Guilt under the Youth Criminal Justice Act within the applicable disclosure period
  • Outstanding entries such as charges, warrants and current judicial orders
  • Absolute and Conditional Discharges within the applicable disclosure period
  • In exceptional cases, non-conviction information when it meets the Public Safety Assessment
  • Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of Mental Disorder
  • All Record Suspensions only as authorized for release by the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness

This check DOES NOT include:

  • Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) information beyond the applicable disclosure period
  • Diversions
  • Convictions under provincial statutes
  • Local police contact
  • Ministry of Transportation information (PARIS)
  • Special Interest Police (SIP) category of CPIC
  • Family Court Restraining Orders
  • Foreign information
  • Any reference to incidents involving mental health contact
