Missing Persons

The Thunder Bay Police Service receives numerous missing person reports from concerned family and friends.  Not all of these incidents require media assistance in locating the missing person.  Investigators assess each case individually to determine the risk factors for the person.  The majority of missing person cases are solved quickly without having to violate the person's privacy.

When necessary, police will release the name and picture of a missing person if there are risk factors or efforts to locate the person have been unsuccessful.

Before a missing person is given to the media or posted on our website, investigators make every effort to have the consent of the family or guardian.

To learn more about filing a missing persons report, visit the missing persons section of our services page.

If you plan to publish missing person media releases to your own social media accounts, you can download a copy of our best practices guide here.
