RIDE nabs five impaired drivers

It was a busy weekend on Thunder Bay roadways.

As communicated in a previous media release, Thunder Bay Police were out conducting RIDE (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) stops Friday and Saturday evening.

The following are the frightening results of those stops:

  • 5 - Impaired / over 80 arrests (21 year old male, 25 year old male, 24 year old male, 36 year old female, 32 year old male)
  • 1 - Suspended driver
  • 1 - Liquor related offence that resulted in the individual being arrested for resisting arrest. This incident resulted in the arresting officer sustained an injury where he had to seek medical attention at the hospital. He was not admitted will be okay.
  • 1 - Bail violation, due to being out beyond their curfew.
  • 1 - G1 licenced driver not accompanied by a licenced driver.

An alarming incident occurred where a 12 year old driver was driving around downtown Port Arthur with friends.

An investigation into how this occurred is continuing.

Seasonal weather did not change driving habits as there were 27 motor vehicle collisions over the weekend requiring Thunder Bay Police Services Officers to investigate the collision. Luckily, none resulted in any serious injuries.

Police remind the public to slow down, be aware of road conditions and your surroundings.

Please be extra cautious over the next couple of nights, with Halloween Trick or Treaters and increased incidents of strange sights in our neighborhoods,
