Update regarding the fatal collision on Algoma Street:

Thunder Bay Police have confirmed all next of kin have been notified regarding the pedestrian who passed away as a result of the collision on Algoma Street Thursday night.

The deceased pedestrian has been identified as 69 year old Frank Tropea Sr. of Thunder Bay.

Fatal collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian on Algoma Street at approximately 6:30 p.m. on July 26, Thunder Bay Police were dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a Nissan Pathfinder and a pedestrian at the intersection of Algoma and Camelot Streets.

The Nissan was travelling westbound on Camelot Street turning left, southbound, onto Algoma Street when it struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk on Algoma Street. The Nissan was being driven by a 51 year old male from Thunder Bay.

The pedestrian, a 69 year old Thunder Bay male, sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and passed away Wednesday night at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center.

The name of the deceased pedestrian is being withheld to ensure notification of next of kin.

The intersection of Algoma Street Norht and Camelot Street was closed to traffic for several hours while the Thunder Bay Police Traffic Unit conducted the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing. Investigators request any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to contact the Traffic Department at 684-1200.
