In the main foyer of the college's campus, law enforcement representatives - including members of the Thunder Bay Police Service - had a chance to interact with International students and answer any questions they may have had.

Marten Falls and Floor Hockey

Officers from the TBPS Community Services branch paid a visit to Marten Falls First Nations. There they met with students and talked about staying safe in Thunder Bay.

Most students will eventually travel to Thunder Bay for education or other services. This ongoing initiative aims to give youth a chance to meet local police before they arrive.

While this has been an ongoing initiative for years, this day-trip to Marten Falls was the first since officers went on a Winter Road trip to four communities in February. Officers say that trip helped them better understand how they can make more meaningful connections with the students they meet.

Special Olympics Day

Carson Smith, Special Olympics Athlete Ambassador, delivered an important and inspiring speech to kick off Special Olympics Day at the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters.

This followed a special flag raisin gat the station.  Thunder Bay was one of 50 communities across Ontario celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics Movement.

The Special Olympics Day also kicked off the 50-day countdown to the innagural 2019 Special Olympics Ontario Invitational Youth Games. Sixty local athletes, at 12 Dryden area athletes, have qualified to participate in that event in Toronto.

A Special Hockey Game

It was probably the best Valentine’s Day ever for Thunder Bay Police Service School Resource Officers. Students and staff at Our Lady Charity Catholic Elementary School had requested the officers presence on Valentine’s Day, but unknown to the officers their presence was needed so students could present them with Valentine’s Day gifts and thanks.

Special Olympics Floor Hockey

Community service branch officers joined other law enforcement members for a game of floor hockey with Special Olympics athletes during an event that was hosted by Fort William First Nations.
