Auto vs Cyclist Collision

On Thursday May 24th at 7pm a collision occurred between an automobile and a cyclist, on John Street Road near Machar Avenue.

The female cyclist was east bound on the north sidewalk crossing through the intersection.

The male driver of the vehicle was southbound in a laneway, wanting to turn right onto John Street. The driver turned across the path of the cylcist striking the cyclist.

The driver of the vehicle has been charged under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act with start from stop position not in safety.

Assault With A Weapon Arrest

Officers responded to a weapons call at the Ramanda - Landmark Inn on Dawson Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. on May 24, 2108 after a 911 call was place by hotel staff.

The 40 year old male employee refused entrance to a 25 year old male who entered the lobby as he was not a resident at the hotel. The male returned a second time and again was refused entry.

This time the male pulled out a knife and pointed it at the employee in a threatening manner and made his way into the hotel. Police were called and arrived within minutes.

Edward St - closed to North Bound Traffic

Edward Street North Bound is currently closed due to construction between Churchill Drive and Riverview Drive.

This closure is clearly marked, so as a vehicle operator you will need to find an alternative route around the closure.

The incorrect choice is to proceed in the South Bound lane of traffic, travelling in the wrong direction.

Police will be strickly enforcing this dangerous driving habit, issuing offence notices.

Headstone Found

Patrol officers were called by Union Gas to attend a Christina Street address yesterday afternoon after a headstone was located by crews digging in back yard of a residence.

The headstone was located buried in the back yard and it was unknown if anything else was buried in that location.

The immediate area was checked with nothing of significance located.

The headstone has been transported to the TBPS Balmoral Police Station for safe keeping until it can be turned over to family members of the deceased named on the headstone.

Road Closure - Rosslyn Road

Please be advised Rosslyn Rd is closed from 15th Side Rd to 20th Side Rd. due to a Tractor trailer blocking the road.

Another media release will be sent when the road is re-opened.

Altercation Leads to Arrest

A 28 year old male was taken into police custody on May 21, 2018 at approximately 12:30 a.m. after receiving several calls for a disturbance outside the Royalton Hotel on Bay Street.

When officers arrived it was discovered that the 28 year old male was asked to leave the bar, he refused to leave and was escorted out after striking an employee.

Once outside he continued to be combative until police arrived.

The male was arrested under the Liquor Licence Act for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place and escorted to the Balmoral Police Station.

Unwanted Male

Officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 200 block of Ambrose Street just before 7:00 a.m. on May 19, 2018 to assist with an unwanted male.

Once officers were on scene they encountered a 48 year old male in a room who was acting oddly and refusing to leave when directed to by the resident.

Officers attempted to intervene and have the male exit the room but the male became combative with officers.

Officer Assaulted

Officers attended a residence on Limbrick Street at 6:00 p.m. on May 19, 2018 and located a 30 year old male wanted on outstanding warrants.

Once the male was outside he became uncooperative with officers.

While attempting to secure him in the police vehicle, the male was resistant and combative.

Rick Sakakeesic, 30 years old, was charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer.

He appeared in court and was remanded into custody.

 

Robbery & Assault Charges Laid

Officers were dispatched to the LCBO on Cumberland Street just after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2018 to assist security with and arrest.

A 45 year old male and 47 year old female were advised by security staff they were under arrest for theft as they attempted to leave the store without paying for items.

The male resisted arrest and struggled while they attempted to take him into custody, officers arrived to assist. The 38 year old security guard was taken to the hospital by ambulance for injuries sustained in the incident.

Vehicle Break In & Thefts

An increase in break into vehicles has been reported to police over the past few weeks. Incidents are being reported from all part of the city but especially higher in the north core area.

Unlocked vehicles are being entered and items stolen as well as vehicle windows are being broken to gain entry. In some reports, debit card are being taken and used at stores when the tap feature of the card is enabled.

Police are encouraging citizens to not leave any valuable items in their vehicles that could be attractive to thieves.
