Injured male now an assault investigation

The circumstances surrounding an injured 52 year old man who was transported to hospital on Sunday morning has been determined to be an assault.

Superior North EMS transported an injured 52 year old Thunder Bay man to hospital from the vicinity of Cumberland Street North and the Marina Park Overpass on Aug. 6, 2017 just after 9 a.m.

The man continues to be hospitalized for treatment of his injuries.

The Criminal Investigations Branch of the Thunder Bay Police Service is investigating this assault.

Death of Brayden Moonias a homicide case

The death of 18 year old Brayden Moonias of Thunder Bay has been determined to be a homicide.

A post mortem examination was conducted in Toronto on Wednesday August 9, 2017.

Details of the post mortem examination will not be disclosed to the public.

The crime scene at Marina Park and McVicar Creek has been released.

The investigation by the TBPS Criminal Investigations Branch continues.

Charges laid in historic sexual assault

Thunder Bay Police have laid charges in a historical sexual assault case.

The alleged incidents occurred between 2008 and 2014 to a single victim. The investigation began in April 2017. No other information can be provided to protect the identity of the victim.

TBPS Officers responded to a robbery at a Mac's Convenience store at 1802 Victoria Avenue East just before midnight on Saturday August 5, 2017.

A male armed with a knife made off with a small amount of cash. No one was injured.

Suspect Description:
· White male in his 30's - 6'2" tall - thin build
· Wearing a black hoodie with red writing on the front saying "Under Armour Hockey", a dark brown neck warmer covering his face up to his eyes and blue jeans

Suspicious Death Investigation Update

The Thunder Bay Police Service's Criminal Investigations Branch is looking for the public's assistance regarding the suspicious death of a Thunder Bay man.

On Aug. 6, 2017 at approximately 8:40 a.m., a passerby called 911 regarding a deceased male in the area of Marina Park at McVicar Creek.

The male was later identified as 18 year old Brayden MOONIAS of Thunder Bay.

A post mortem is pending in Toronto.

Robbery at a North Side Gas Station

Patrol officers attended the Esso on the Run Gas Station located on John Street Road at 2:50 a.m. on August 4, 2017 regarding a robbery that has just occurred.

The 20 year old male victim stated that a male and female arrived to the business on mountain bikes wearing clothing that concealed their faces. The female proceeded to approach the checkout counter with a knife and demanded money. The two suspects fled on their bike with some money. The clerk was not injured.

Parking Lot Auto-Pedestrian Collision Sends Female to Hospital

Officers were dispatched to an auto-pedestrian collision in the parking lot of the Metro Store on River Street at 3:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

A 86 year old male driver was parking in the lot when he struck a 38 year old female with two children aged 5 & 6 years old.

The female was pinned between two cars.

Several pedestrians rendered assistance until emergency responders arrived.

The female was taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for medical attention as was the driver of the vehicle.

Nine Arrested on Drug Related Charges

A joint effort of the TBPS Drug Unit with the Guns & Gang Unit along with the Community Response team successfully executed a search warrant during the afternoon on August 2, 2017 on an apartment located in located in the 200 block of Wilson Street and a vehicle associated to the residence. Officers were acting on information they have gathered over a five month long investigation.
