Robbery Suspects

The TBPS is releasing a video of suspects involved in a robbery over the weekend at the Mac's Convenience Store located on Oliver Road in hope to have them identified.

At approximately 4:00 a.m. on November 25th, two females entered the store with their faces covered. One pulled out a knife while demanding cigarettes and cash from the 23 year old male employee while the other attended behind the counter.

They left the store on foot with cigarettes. There were no injuries in this incident.

Assault Arrest

Just after 12:30 p.m. a TBPS officer arrives at the Thunder Center to assist with a male who was causing issues outside of the Dollarama on Main Street and was being followed by group of 5 to 6 people.

The officer became concerned for the welfare of this male as he was running into traffic on a private roadway.

When approached by the officer the male became combative and as a result was arrested for Assault Peace Officer.

Other police units arrived on scene to assist with the arrest and escorted the male to the Balmoral Police Station.

Weapons Incident

On November 18, 2017, just before midnight, patrol officers attended a residence in the 1100 block of Brown Street in response to a 911 call from a male who advised that his house was just shot at and he has two holes in his front window, probably as a result of a pellet gun.

The victim advised that he heard two loud bangs against his large front window ran to the front door and observed a light coloured minivan driving past his residence.

Police are releasing a video of the vehicle in this incident.

Convenience Store Robbery

Patrol officers attended the Mac's Convenience Store on Balsam Street last night to investigate a robbery that had just occurred.

Telemarketing Extortion Scams

The Thunder Bay Police Service has received numerous complaints regarding telemarketing extortion scams, and would like remind citizens to be extra vigilant when receiving phone calls from anyone requesting payments.

Security Guard Assaulted

An incident at a Memorial Avenue drug store resulted in an assault of store's security guard early Sunday morning.

TBPS Uniform Patrol officers responded to a 911 call from the Shoppers Drug Mart at 1186 Memorial Avenue at approximately 3:40 a.m. on November 19, 2017.

It was reported that a male shoplifter was struggling with a security guard outside of the store.

The accused was arrested by police upon their arrival. It is alleged that the male security guard received a minor injury from a knife used by the accused during the confrontation.

Two Officers Injured During Arrest

On November 14, 2017, patrol officers were dispatched to the Real Canadian Superstore just before 11:00 p.m., for a male being assaultive with staff and after being asked to leave the business.

A few minutes' later officers found the male matching the description at the Wendy's Restaurant parking lot and approached him to caution him about his earlier actions.

The male became aggressive and assaultive toward the officers.

He was eventually taken into custody with the assistance of other officers.

Hit and Run Involving Cyclist

Hit and Run - Carrick Street at Central Avenue

On Friday Nov. 10 at approximately 2:30 p.m., a cyclist was travelling northbound on Carrick Street proceeding through a green light on Central Avenue.

At the time, a brown Chevy pickup was also travelling northbound on Carrick Street and turned right onto Central Avenue making contact with the cyclist and knocking him off his bicycle.

The cyclist sustained minor injuries and damage to his bike.

Police pursuit ends in arrest, multiple charges

Thunder Bay Police Service officers arrested and charged a Thunder Bay man with various offences after he led police on an early morning pursuit.

On November 10, 2017 at 2:16 a.m. uniformed officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a white pickup truck travelling eastbound on Gore Street. The driver ignored the officer's attempt and a pursuit followed.

The driver collided with a fence, street sign and police cruiser before stopping the vehicle on Brock Street and fleeing on foot.

Human Trafficking Arrest

A 20-year-old Lindsey Ontario man is facing human trafficking charges following an investigation by the TBPS Criminal Investigations Branch which began on October 24, 2017.

Uniform Patrol Officers received information from a Thunder Bay social agency regarding a 26-year-old woman who had been the victim of human trafficking.

It is alleged that the woman had been trafficked throughout Ontario in October 2017. The victim, who is from southern Ontario, was provided assistance and is now safe.
