Police investigating weekend aggravated assault

TBPS Uniform Patrol officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of Picton Avenue at approximately 2:00 a.m. on September 16, 2017 regarding an assault.

Police and EMS responded. A 28 year old man was discovered inside the home. He was taken to Thunder Bay Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries.

A 34 year old man was arrested at the scene. It is alleged that the two males were involved in an altercation with each other.

Homicide Victim Name Released

The victim in the September 10, 2017 homicide at a Syndicate Avenue North residence has been identified as 25 year old Bert Isaac WOOD of Thunder Bay.

The identification process followed a post mortem examination in Toronto on Wednesday.

The results of that examination will not be released to the public as this matter is now before the courts.

TBPS clearance rate above national average amid rising call volumes: Report

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Despite an increase in call volumes, city police are clearing more cases than the average service in Ontario and Canada.

Statistics Canada data shows the weighted clearance rate of the Thunder Bay Police Service reached 47 per cent in 2016, above the 41.7 per cent provincial average and 38.5 per cent national average. The local service’s clearance rate for violent crimes in 2016 was nearly 69 per cent, above the nearly 62 per cent average recorded for Ontario and Canada.

Police investigating serious collision

A middle aged man is in hospital in serious condition following a single motor vehicle collision at approximately 3:08 a.m. this morning.

The man was driving a late model Dodge Ram pickup truck north bound on Balmoral Street near Beverly Street when his vehicle left the road and rolled over following a collision with a hydro pole. Police, Fire and EMS responded to scene. The driver was freed from the vehicle by Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue and transported to hospital by Superior North EMS. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Missing Person - Jeanette Tibishkogijig

Thunder Bay Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating missing person Jeanette TIBISHKOGIJIG.

She is described as being 24 years old, approximately 5'4", or 167 cm, and 165 pounds, or 75 kg, with brown hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen on September 1, 2017.

Sudden Death

On September 10, 2017 at approximately 11:26 am theThunder Bay Police Service received a 911 call in the area of Syndicate Avenue North to check the welfare of a male.

Police arrived on scene and located a deceased person as well as two other persons who had been assaulted.

The Thunder Bay Police Service's Criminal Investigations Branch is investigating.

Thunder Bay Police know that there are people with information that will assist the investigation and are asking them to come forward.

Officer Dragged by Car

A TBPS Uniform Patrol officer was dragged several feet by a car driven by a wanted Thunder Bay man.

A black Impala was stopped by a Uniform Patrol officer at Arthur Street and Syndicate Avenue just before noon on September 4, 2017.

The male driver had a warrant for failing to appear for a court date. When the officer attempted to make an arrest, the accused began to drive away, eventually dragging the officer approximately 20 feet. The officer received minor injuries and the accused and the car fled the scene.

Robbery Suspect to be Identified

On September 2, 2017 a male armed with knife robbed the Mac's Store at Oliver Road and High Street at approximately 4:20 p.m. No one was injured.

The suspect is described as:

· White male - age 20's to 30's
· Thin build
· Wearing a black and blue two tone jacket, black and blue in colour, a white hat, light blue jeans or grey jogging pants and black footwear

The suspect was last seen running westbound on John Street from High Street.

UPDATE: Suspicious Package

At approximately 2:00 pm, August 29, 2017, members of the Thunder Bay Police Service responded to a report of a suspicious package which located on the sidewalk beside the Thunder Bay Police Service Substation, 18 N Court Street. The suspicious package was a green metal ammunition box which appeared to be secured with a heavy duty padlock.
