Robbery

The TBPS are releasing video of a male responsible for a robbery just before 2:00 a.m. on May 8, 2018 at the Mac's Convenience store located on Red River Road.

The suspect entered the store with his face covered and threatened to stab the male while demanding money. The suspect fled on foot with a small amount of cash and cigarettes.

The suspect is described as a tall, thin male wearing a black hoodie and high visibility safety vest.

Spring Bear Incidents

The Thunder Bay Police Service has received a handful of bear calls in the month of April. These situations where resolved quickly with the bears returning to the surrounding bush.

Citizens are to call 911 should an encounter with a bear become a safety concern. Officer will be dispatched to assess the situation and determine the best steps required for public safety. Non-emergency encounters or sightings are to be reported to the MNR Bear Wise program at 1-866-514-2327 .

Robbery

The Thunder Bay Police Service is releasing video image to help identify a male involved in a robbery early this morning at the Mac's Convenience Store located on Arthur Street.

The suspect entered the store around 5:30 a.m. on May 3, 2018 and attempted to use a debit card. When the PIN number failed, he pulled out a syringe and demanded money from the male clerk. The suspect left the store was a small amount of cash. The employee was not injured.

Breaking Barriers

The Thunder Bay Police Service has launched a new page on our website which is designed to inform the public on the progress to reduce systemic barriers.

We recognize that systemic barriers exist between Indigenous people and the justice system which includes police. The work that goes into eliminating these barriers is an ongoing process. We have been strengthening our existing relationships within the community and listening to the concerns which have been raised.

Gun Amnesty

The Thunder Bay Police Service collected a total of 78 guns in the month of April.

This total includes ten restricted or prohibited handguns along with a significant amount of ammunition. 

The provincial gun amnesty has concluded for 2018.

Robbery

Thunder Bay Police are releasing video images of a suspect in a robbery at the Mac's Convenience Store located on Red River Road.

The suspect entered the store with his face covered and demanded money from the male employee. The suspect left the area on foot with the cash. The clerk was not injured.

The male suspect is described as being 6'4" tall with a thin build. He was wearing a grey Toronto hoodie with grey pants and brown shoes.

Firearms Stolen in Break & Enter

The Thunder Bay Police Service is currently investigating a break and enter to a residence in the 2500 block of Broadway Avenue between 11:00 a.m. and 1:50 p.m. on April 26, 2018.

The homeowner arrived home to find that entry had been forced and the residence had been ransacked. A number of items have been stolen including numerous rifles, shotguns, handguns and ammunition. Also taken was a custom three foot long sword with a white handle, a television, significant amount of jewelry and other items.

Elderly Male Assaulted

The Thunder Bay Police Service is currently investigating an assault that occurred on the 100 block of Rockwood Avenue yesterday morning.

An 82 year old male was out walking when he was approached at approximately 11:00 a.m. by two males and assaulted. The suspects fled the area and neighbours came out to assist the male and contact police. The male was taken to hospital by ambulance for medical attention.

Robbery

Patrol Officers responded to a robbery that occurred outside the Mac's Convenience Store on Cumberland Street just before 12:30 a.m. on April 26, 2018.

The 44 year old female victim stated she was in the parking lot when she was approached by a male and female who grabbed her, assaulted her and left with her cell phone and cash that was in her bag.

They left southbound on Cumberland Street on foot. The female was not injured in this altercation.

Unsafe vehicle nets youth multiple charges

On April 23, 2018, at 2:43 p.m., an officer with the Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit conducted a traffic stop of a black pick-up truck on Island Drive for using licence plates that were not authorized for that vehicle.

Upon approaching the driver, the officer noted something suspicious about the seating arrangement in the truck: The driver of the vehicle was sitting in a fold-up lawnchair in the place where the manufacturer's driver seat ought to be.
