Impaired Driver 4 times legal limit

On December 28th at 6:22 pm a pick up truck was stopped after an officer on regular patrol observed it commit numerous traffic violations.

When the officer stopped the vehicle and spoke to the 62 year old male driver, the officer could smell alcohol on the breath of the driver.

The male was brought back to the Thunder Bay Police station to provide a breath sample. The sample provided was found to be over four times the legal limit.

Wanson Lumber Break & Enter

On December 16, 2017 at approximately 6:07 a.m.. offiers were dispatched to Wanson Lumber on John Street to respond to alarms going off within the building. Officers arrived to find the front door had been pried open. Officers cleared the business finding nobody inside.

Staff attended and was able to confirm that several power tools had been taken, including:

TBPS Board welcomes new member

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The city’s police service board has a new member.

Celina Reitberger was sworn in as a member of the Thunder Bay Police Service Board during a public meeting Tuesday morning. A former executive director of Nishnawbe Aski Nation Legal and a Fort William First Nation member, Reitberger becomes the board’s provincially appointed member.

“What I hope to accomplish is building bridges,” Reitberger said following her first meeting as a board member Tuesday.

Be Cautious With Images You Choose to Send

The Thunder Bay Police Service would like to remind individuals that any time they send a nude image of themselves that there is the potential for it to be uploaded to file sharing and/or social media sites without their consent.

In November, the TBPS received four reports from complainants that had become aware of intimate images of themselves on various sites. Each of the complainants had previously sent images to another person.

Investigations by the Cyber Crime Unit has determined that the origin of these sites appear to be from out of country.

Drug Warrants Executed Resulting in Multiple Arrests and Seizures

Thunder Bay Police Intelligence Unit was very active last week executing multiple drug warrants that lead to the arrest of three males and seizure of money and drug.

An investigation began in September 2017 by the Intelligence Unit about individuals responsible for the distribution of cocaine at the Royalton Hotel on Bay Street. As a result of this investigation a search warrant was conducted in November 2017 on a storage locker at a self-storage business in town. Inside the unit, investigators located prescription pills, marijuana and crack cocaine and cash.

Barricaded Male Apprehended

An incident in an apartment building in the 200 block of Rowand Street ended with the arrest of a Thunder Bay man last night.

TBPS Uniform Patrol officers were called to the building at approximately 9:30 p.m. last night with regards to a resident who had allegedly committed an assault and discharged a fire extinguisher in common area hallways.

When officers arrived, the accused would not come out of his apartment for police. He was believed to be at risk to himself and others.

Possible Meteor Landing

On Wednesday December 13, 2017 at approximately 11:00 p.m. patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Highway 61 and Mount Forest Boulevard to investigate a report of a loud explosion that shook the houses in the vicinity.

Robbery Arrest

On December 10, 2017 at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to a Cameron Street apartment where three males had just forced their way in at knife point.

The 27 and 34 year old male victims were directed into the bathroom and threatened. Once the males left they discovered a number of items taken including a television, a cellphone, a wireless phone and a wallet.

Male Arrested for Two Morning Robberies

On Sunday December 10, 2017 at 7:34 a.m. the Thunder Bay Police received a 911 call from an employee at the ESSO Gas Station at 645 Arthur Street West, reporting a robbery had just occurred.

Officers arrived at the business and spoke to the employees who advised a male came up to the counter and pulled a knife out of his jacket and told the employee to empty the till. The accused then left the store, returned to the white SUV and drove out of the parking lot westbound on Arthur Street.

Public Assistance Requested

The Thunder Bay Police Service is requesting the assistance of the public with information about the sudden death of Dylan Moonias on or about September 21, 2017. Dylan's body was located in the Neebing/ MacIntyre Floodway on September 23, 2017 in the Intercity area.
