Two Youth Charged with Assaulting Police Officers

Two youth are in police custody after refusing to leave Churchill High School when directed by officers last evening.

Patrol officers attend Churchill High School around 9:15 p.m. on April 19, 2018 at the request of school staff to have two unwanted males removed from the school dance. Officers approached the 17 year old males and asked them to leave the premise.

One male began to leave while the other refused and was advised he would be arrested for trespass if he did not leave.

Rupert Street Sudden Death Investigation - UPDATE

A post-mortem was conducted in relation to a sudden death on Rupert Street on April 1, 2018. As a result it has been determined to be a Coroner's investigation.

The Thunder Bay Police Service will continue to assist the Coroner's Office in their investigation.

Sudden Death Investigation

The Thunder Bay Police Service is on scene conducting a sudden death investigation in the 100 block of Rupert Street.

Assault Arrest

A 31 year old Thunder Bay male was arrested yesterday after a female reported an assault just before noon on April 18, 2018.

A 40 year old female contacted police to report that when she was visiting the male at his residence in the 600 block of South Catherine Street, they had an altercation which resulted in her being threatened with an edged weapon.

She was able to leave the residence and go to a nearby house and call police.

Officers located the male walking on Moodie Street where he was taken into custody at approximately 12:10 p.m.

ATM Theft Surveillance Video

The Thunder Bay Police Service is releasing surveillance footage of two suspects involved in a Wednesday morning Break and Enter on Oliver Road.

ATM Theft

At 6:00 a.m. the TBPS responded to a report of a break and enter at the Life Labs located on Oliver Road.

An employee arrived to find a glass door broken and the ATM machine had been stolen.

Attempted Robbery

Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred on April 17, 2018 at 4:45 p.m. at the Safeway located on Court Street.

The report indicated that two males attended the checkout area and caused a commotion. In the process one male grabbed the 47 year old female cashier and attempted to money out of the cash drawer.

She was able to get control of the till.

As the suspects were attempting to flee, a 54 year old female employee attempt to block their exit and was pushed.

The suspect fled on foot north bound on Court Street.

Suspicious Male

Police took a report from a 10 year old female who was approached by an unknown male on her way to school this morning.

At approximately 8:20 a.m. on April 18, 2018, the girl was walking in the area of Minstrel Bay and Scarlet Avenue when a male in a truck stopped and offered her a ride. She walked away from the vehicle towards a residence.

The male then exited his truck and yelled at her. He got back in the vehicle and abruptly drove away.

ATM Theft

At 6 a.m. the TBPS responded to a report of a break and enter at the Life Labs located on Oliver Road.

An employee arrived to find a glass door broken and the ATM machine had been stolen.

A review of the security video shows that two males entered the building at approximately 5:30 a.m. and loaded the machine into an older model dark four door car.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the police at 684-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The investigation is ongoing.

 

Robbery Arrest

Patrol officers were dispatched to the Mac's Convenience Store located on Red River Road just before 1:00 a.m. on April 17, 2018 to investigate a robbery that had just occurred.

The 25 year old male employee reported that a male entered the store with his face covered and held a knife while demanding money.

The male took the charity box filled with coins from the counter and left the scene heading towards Picton Avenue.

An officer located a male on Picton Avenue.

The suspect was arrested after a large quantity of change was located on him.

Early Morning Assault Sends Two To Hospital

Emergency services attended an apartment in the 200 block of Grenville Avenue around 4:00 a.m. on April 17, 2018 on a report of an assault that had occurred.

A 22 year old female and a 23 year old male who are known to each other were involved in an altercation.

Both individuals were taken to hospital. The 22 year old female has been released from the hospital.

The 23 year old male remains in hospital and has been charged with Break and Enter, Assault with a Weapon, Mischief Under $5000 and Breach of an Undertaking.

Weapons Incident Arrest

Officers were dispatched to the Wal-Mart located on Dawson Road just after 5:00 p.m. on April 13, 2018 to assist store security who were attempting to arrest a female for a theft.

When officers arrived they located the two security officers struggling with a female who was on the ground outside the store.

Once the female was detained by officers it was reported that when the suspect was confronted about the theft she stated she had a knife and threatened to stab the security officer.

A search of the female revealed a number of knives in her possession.
