Auto vs Cyclist Collision

On Thursday May 24th at 7pm a collision occurred between an automobile and a cyclist, on John Street Road near Machar Avenue.

The female cyclist was east bound on the north sidewalk crossing through the intersection.

The male driver of the vehicle was southbound in a laneway, wanting to turn right onto John Street. The driver turned across the path of the cylcist striking the cyclist.

The driver of the vehicle has been charged under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act with start from stop position not in safety.

Edward St - closed to North Bound Traffic

Edward Street North Bound is currently closed due to construction between Churchill Drive and Riverview Drive.

This closure is clearly marked, so as a vehicle operator you will need to find an alternative route around the closure.

The incorrect choice is to proceed in the South Bound lane of traffic, travelling in the wrong direction.

Police will be strickly enforcing this dangerous driving habit, issuing offence notices.

Road Closure - Rosslyn Road

Please be advised Rosslyn Rd is closed from 15th Side Rd to 20th Side Rd. due to a Tractor trailer blocking the road.

Another media release will be sent when the road is re-opened.

Car with Hood Up

On May 11th, 2018 at approximately 2:40 pm a vehicle was filmed driving north bound on Memorial Avenue with its hood up. The driver continued driving looking under the hood to see where he was going.

TBPS launch Can You See Me Now motorcycle safety campaign

Motorcyclists are nearly 40 per cent less likely to be involved in a collision simply wearing high-visibility or fluorescent clothing.

This fact is the foundation of a new TBPS motorcycle safety Can You See Me Now campaign, which is officially launching today to mark Motorcycle Safety Month. The TBPS Traffic Unit teamed up with Excalibur Motorcycle Works and the Motorcycle Safety Training Organization to demonstrate how high-visibility clothing helps motorcycle riders stay safe on the roads.

Motor Vehicle Collision

A motor vehicle collison occurred at 11:24 this morning at the corner of Dufferin Street and Secord Street.

The vehicle travelling east bound on Dufferin Street rolled onto is roof as a result of the collision, the driver remained in the vehicle until emergency services arrived.

The male driver was removed from the vehicle and walked to the Ambulance. He was taken to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and was medically cleared, uninjuried.

The driver of the other vehicle travelling north bound on Secord Street was uninjured.

Unsafe vehicle nets youth multiple charges

On April 23, 2018, at 2:43 p.m., an officer with the Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit conducted a traffic stop of a black pick-up truck on Island Drive for using licence plates that were not authorized for that vehicle.

Upon approaching the driver, the officer noted something suspicious about the seating arrangement in the truck: The driver of the vehicle was sitting in a fold-up lawnchair in the place where the manufacturer's driver seat ought to be.

Thunder Bay Police - Snowmobile Enforcement

On Saturday March 3rd, 2018 members of the Thunder Bay Police Traffic Unit were on the Snowmoibile Trails along Highway 61 and Highway 130.

During this enforcement project one rider was cautioned about carrying all there required documents. Also a 12 year old was stopped resulting in his father being called.

The father was spoken to regarding the size of the machine his child was riding being too large for the child (an 800cc machine) and the child being unlicenced.

Numerous other snowmobilers were stopped as well as some hikers using the packed trails.

Impaired Arrest

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on February 25, 2018 a call was received a call about a vehicle with three occupants that had collided with a snow bank in the 500 block of McDonald Street.

When officers arrived they observed two males attempting to shovel out the vehicle.

The male driver provided a breath sample and was advised he was under arrest for being impaired.

The male became combative with officers and was eventually handcuffed and escorted to the Balmoral Police Station.

Temporary Road Closure

Thunder Bay Police Service is advising motorists of a road closure as a result of a non-injury single motor vehicle collision on Wardrope Avenue.

Wardrope Avenue will be closed from Superiorview Drive to Belton Road for approximately 8 hours to facilitate repair work by Thunder Bay Hydro.
