Corporate Communications

Media Relations is a vital link between the Thunder Bay Police Service and the public.  We provide media releases and support directly to legitimate news organizations.  Media releases are also posted on this website.  Social media now plays an important role in allowing us to reach an even wider public.  We also produce videos which are posted on You Tube.

Information Technology

Policing relies on technology for everything from dispatching calls for service, managing records, supporting investigations and assisting our members in the day to day operation of our police service.  The complexity and demands on this unit grow each year.

Freedom of Information

Police hold important information in the form of police reports and records pertaining to investigations.  The release of the this information is legislated to protect privacy and govern how information is released.  The FOI unit assists the public in accessing information.

Internal Auditing

Policing is one of most regulated forms of service delivery.  Quality assurance is at the heart of internal auditing.  For example, the Police Services Act requires an annual audit of property and evidence which is in the care and control of a police service.  Internal audits also are useful in determining best practices and improving business processes.

Crime Stoppers

Crime Stoppers takes information phoned in by anonymous callers and passes it along to the appropriate law enforcement agency for investigation. (i.e. RCMP, OPP, Thunder Bay Police, MNR, Canada Customs, etc). The "CALLER" or " TIPSTER" is never identified but is assigned a code number. The tip is investigated and if the information is good and law enforcement use the information to help solve a crime the caller is eligible for a reward. A reward is recommended and approved by the apporiate Crime Stoppers Committee. Once that is completed arrangements are made for the "caller" to pick up their cash reward.
