Incident Date

Police in Marten Falls First Nation have arrested a second suspect connected to an attempted murder investigation following the August assault at a Thunder Bay hotel.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to a hotel room in the 1000-block of Dawson Road at about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 following reports of an assault that had just occurred.

Police learned a male had allegedly assaulted the victim, apparently unprovoked, with an edged weapon. The victim and accused were known to one another. The victim sustained serious injuries, and was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment.

A male suspect was identified and later arrested on that date for charges including Aggravated Assault. That charge has since been changed to Attempt to Commit Murder.

As a result of continued investigation by members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Major Crime Unit, a second suspect linked to the assault was identified.

His location was discovered, and with support from members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, including members of the NAPS Emergency Response Team, the suspect was arrested and transported to the City of Thunder Bay.

Patrick William BAXTER, 44, of Marten Falls First Nation, is charged with:

• Attempt to Commit Murder

He appeared in bail court in Thunder Bay on Friday, Sept. 1, and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
