A Thunder Bay man asked to leave a southside home faces numerous charges, including cocaine and fentanyl trafficking, after a Sunday evening assault.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to the 200-block area of Cumming Street just after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20, following reports of an assault that had just occurred.

When police arrived they learned that a male was asked to leave a residence. The male was not a resident and had caused damage to the property.
Officers located the male suspect nearby and was subsequently arrested and taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit, which ended in the area of Leith and May Streets.

While in custody, police learned the accused was in possession of weapons, a quantity of suspected cocaine, fentanyl, other narcotics, cash and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

He was transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.

John Paul Lazaras McNickle, 33, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Hydromorphone for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Gabapentin for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Biphentin for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x 2
• Obstruct Peace Officer
• Resist Peace Officer
• Mischief
• Assault

He appeared in bail court on Monday, Aug. 21, and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
