Incident Date

Students are heading back to class, and that means you’ll be seeing school buses regularly on your morning and afternoon commutes.

This means motorists, even more so than usual, need to drive with extra caution, proceed at or below posted speed limits, and take extra care when driving near school zones and school buses.

When a school bus stops with its flashing red lights and stop sign, it is vital that you stop, and remained stopped, too. There is never a good reason to pass a school bus.

It’s that time of year again where children across the city will be heading back to school. Many of these children will be excited to reunite with friends and begin their studies. Others will be going to school for the first time.

What this means for motorists is that there will be a lot more traffic during peak travel times. Motorists are reminded to give themselves extra travel time to get to their destination, to pay attention to their driving and to always be below the maximum posted speed limit. Even an increase of just five kilometers an hour can mean the difference between a life altering collision and the avoidance of a collision entirely.

For those few motorists who do not drive in a safe manner, the Thunder Bay Police will be increasing traffic enforcement in and around school zones to ensure the children in our community remain as safe as possible.

Please drive safely and use extra care and attention around school zones.
