The Thunder Bay Police Service is requesting public assistance as it continues to investigate reported historic sexual assaults involving a Thunder Bay man.

Members of the TBPS’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating reported sexual assaults involving boxing coach Jose Antonio Dasousa PIMENTEL, 62. The alleged assaults date back to 1995, and involve victims who were known to the accused through boxing.

Police believe the accused maintained a position of trust and authority over the alleged victims. To protect the identity of victims who have come forward, the Thunder Bay Police Service will not release any further details about these relationships.

The initial investigation began in November of 2022, when incidents were brought to the attention of officers with Thunder Bay Police Service’s Primary Response Branch, who began the initial investigation.

Members of the TBPS’s Major Crimes Unit became involved and focused their investigation on alleged incidents that occurred as far back as 1995.

Through this investigation, police laid charges of Sexual Assault and Sexual Exploitation against PIMENTEL in July of 2023.

Continued investigative efforts led to a second victim being identified. As a result, the Thunder Bay Police Service laid an additional Sexual Assault charge on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023.

The accused is scheduled to appear in bail court in Thunder Bay today (Thursday, Aug. 17).

The investigation remains ongoing, and police continue to examine the possibility that there are more victims who have yet to come forward.
