Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to a serious collision on the city’s north side at about 8:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25.

A three-vehicle collision occurred at the corner of Windsor Street and Clarkson Street South. Firefighters with the Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and paramedics with Superior North EMS were also dispatched to the scene.

An investigation revealed a van travelling northbound on Clarkson Street went through a stop sign at Windsor Street without stopping. At the same time a car was turning onto Clarkson Street from Windsor Street and was struck by the van.

The car flipped on to a nearby boulevard, at which point the van struck another car that was heading southbound.

Several pedestrians had to leap out of the way to avoid being involved in the collision.

When police arrived they learned the male driver of the van had fled the scene on foot.

Meanwhile the female driver of the second car involved had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and transported by paramedics to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for treatment of unknown but non-life threatening injuries.

Police later identified and located the driver of the van. He has been arrested and is now in police custody.

A 29-year-old Thunder Bay man is being charged with Dangerous Driving Causing Injuries, and Fail to Remain at the Scene of a Collision. He was also driving without a license.
