An off-duty Thunder Bay Police Service officer was driving in the area of Algoma Street near Bay Street in the evening hours of Saturday, April 17 when they observed a motorist driving erratically.

The vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic and driving onto the sidewalk. The vehicle came to rest in the 300 block of Bay Street, at which point the off-duty officer exited their vehicle and approached the motorist.

When the officer approached, he noticed signs that the driver was in medical distress. The vehicle was put into park, then police and paramedics were contacted.

Paramedics arrived and provided further medical assistance.

The male motorist, who was in his 80s, was responsive before being transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for precautionary reasons.

No one was injured and property was not damaged as a result of this incident.

The Thunder Bay Police Service would like to remind the public that If they witness erratic driving behaviour, which could be linked to medical distress or impaired driving, please call 911 immediately.
