Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to the 2800-block area of Arthur Street East to check on the welfare of an individual who may have been in distress just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 31.

Officers located the male, who was now asleep behind the wheel a running vehicle, in a parking lot near the intersection of Arthur and Edward Streets. The officer woke the individual, who showed multiple signs of impairment.

Police also found the male to be in possession of illicit pills, paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking, knives and a replica firearm.

The male was arrested and transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters.

At the TBPS headquarters the male was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert, who determined he was impaired by drugs.

Jason Anthony Henry SAMPLE, 37, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Schedule 3 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Operation While Impaired by Alcohol and Drugs, Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon, and Failure to Comply with a Judicial Release.

He appeared in bail court on Monday, June 1 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
