Police arrested and charged an impaired driver after they fled from the scene of a parking lot motor-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon.

The initial collision took place about 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13 in a parking lot in the 200 block of Windsor Street. One of the motorists involved called police after a conversation with the other driver, who had fled the scene before officers arrived.

A second collision was reported at about 1:20 p.m. in the 100 block of Windsor Street after a similarly-described vehicle was observed running off the road, striking both a tree and hydro pole on a residential property before fleeing the scene.

An investigation led police to a residential address in the 200 block of Algonquin Avenue South. Police arrived at this location at about 2:30 p.m. and located the other vehicle involved in the Windsor Street collisions.

Officers also located the driver, who showed multiple signs of impairment.

The suspect became irate with officers. Police arrested the accused and transported him to the TBPS headquarters.

Further evaluation at the station determined the accused was impaired by alcohol. His blood alcohol concentration was more than double the legal limit.

A 41-year-old Thunder Bay man is charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired, Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration, Failure to Stop After Accident, Breach of Probation.

He was released with a future appearance date.
