Police arrested a youth connected to the investigation of a Monday morning arson on the city’s north side.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers originally attended a residential address in the 700 block of John Street just after midnight on Monday, Aug. 10 following reports of a structural fire.

Firefighters with the Thunder Bay Fire Rescue also attended to extinguish the blaze.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the fire, but occupants of the home were forced to flee for their safety.

An investigation by the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal determined the fire was deliberately set.

Further investigation by members of the Thunder Bay Police Service, including officers with the Major Crimes Unit, identified a suspect.

Officers with the TBPS’s Uniform Patrol Branch located and arrested the accused just after midnight on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

A 15-year-old Thunder Bay male has been charged with Arson: Disregard for Human Life, and Failure to Comply with Judicial Release x 2.

The breaches were associated with January charges of First-Degree Murder, Break and Enter, Disguise with Intent and Aggravated Assault.

The accused cannot be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The youth appeared in bail court on Wednesday, Aug. 12 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
