Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to the 200-block area of Pacific Avenue just after 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 31 following reports of an altercation between two males involving weapons.

Police learned the two males were walking along Pacific Avenue when they became involved in an argument. One male was in possession of a weapon, possibly a hatchet, which he began swinging in the direction of the other male.

Both parties were known to one another and eventually went their separate ways without further incident.

At about 10:40 a.m., police located one of the two males involved in the argument. The male was not the accused believed to be in possession of the hatchet, however, police did find he was in possession of a replica firearm, multiple knives and a mask.

The male attempted to provide officers with a false identity, but police were able to positively identify him and confirm he had outstanding warrants with the Thunder Bay Police Service.

Walter Brett Kevin BAXTER, 28, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Breach of Probation and Failure to Comply with a Judicial Release.

He appeared in bail court Monday, June 1 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
