Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to three separate reports of paramedics being assaulted in the evening hours of Friday, Nov. 1 and early morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 2.

The first incident occurred just before 11 p.m. Offices with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to the 400 block of Wiley Street where paramedics with the Superior North EMS had already arrived to treat an intoxicated youth.

Prior to police arriving the youth became aggressive and assaulted a paramedic. The youth also became aggressive with officers as they arrived. After a brief struggle the youth was arrested without further incident.

A second incident occurred just after midnight. Officers were dispatched to the zero-to-100 block of Enniskillen Avenue where paramedics had requested assistance for a female who was intoxicated and behaving erratically.

Before police arrived the woman had become combative with paramedics and fled the area.

After a brief search officers located the female and were able to calm her down enough that she agreed to allow the paramedics to medically assess her. The woman was later transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Police were dispatched to a third incident around 1:30 a.m. at an Arthur Street hotel where a female was refusing to leave the lobby area. Prior to police arriving a paramedic already at the scene was assaulted by the female.

Despite the assault paramedics were able to successfully transport the woman, who appeared to have injuries from a prior incident, to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
