On August 22nd, 2019, shortly after 11pm, Thunder Bay Police were dispatched to a report of a boat that had struck the break-wall outside of the Thunder Bay Marina.

Emergency services, with the assistance of the Coast Guard, attended and rescued the 6 individuals who had all suffered varying degrees of injuries as a result of the collision.

All these individuals were transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. One of the parties sustained life threatening injuries and is currently in serious condition.

Alcohol is a suspected factor in the collision. The investigation continues.

The public is asked to report any information regarding this collision to the Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit at 807-684-1200.

The Thunder Bay Police Service regularly partners with other agencies and conducts patrols on the waterways in and around Thunder Bay looking for boaters who have been drinking alcohol. Impaired driving is an offence in any motor vehicle. The penalties for operating while impaired are the same for a boat as they are for a passenger vehicle.

Please don't drink then drive any motor vehicle.
