A suspended driver who refused to stop for police was arrested following a motor-vehicle collision and a brief foot pursuit on Boxing Day.

A Thunder Bay Police Service officer with the Traffic Unit was in the area of the 100 block of Sherbrooke Street just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 26 when he observed an SUV being driven in an erratic and dangerous manner.

The officer observed the motorist travelling at a high rate of speed and ignoring stop signs. The officer also observed signs the motorist may have been impaired. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Edward Street near Redwood Avenue, but the motorist ignored them and continued.

Due to public safety concerns, the officers discontinued their pursuit of the motorist.

Moments later police learned the same SUV was involved in a motor-vehicle collision at the corner of Arthur and Edward Streets.

Police learned the driver of the SUV entered the intersection during a red light and came into collision with a truck. Following the collision, the male driver of the SUV fled on foot.

The accused was located and arrested in the 2000 block of Begin Place following a brief foot pursuit.

The accused was found to be a suspended driver and in possession of a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, and a non-firearm prohibited weapon.

Stephan Richard PARR, 42, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:

• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Flight from Peace Officer
• Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon in a Motor Vehicle
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Failure to Stop After Accident
• Resist Peace Officer
• Carrying Concealed Weapon
• Operation of Motor Vehicle While Prohibited x 6

He appeared in bail court on Sunday, Dec. 27 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
