Thunder Bay Police Service officers spotted a vehicle driving through an alley at a high rate of speed on the city’s southside at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Officers with the service’s Traffic Unit were on McKenzie Street when they noticed the vehicle cutting through a back lane and heading southbound between Cummings and Bethune Streets.

Officers conducted a traffic stop. When they approached the driver’s-side window officers could smell a strong odour of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

Officers could also see a quantity of cannabis in the vehicle, which was readily available to the male driver and his female passenger. Police also learned the driver did not have a valid licence.

The driver and passenger exited the vehicle, at which point the passenger began acting suspicious. Upon further questioning by the officer, the passenger surrendered a bag of white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested and police seized a quantity of Cannabis, Cocaine and Crack Cocaine.

The estimated street value of the drugs seized totaled nearly $6,500.

Dayjuan FRANCIS, 20, of Mississauga, is charged with possession of Cocaine.

Teeanna Marie STATHATOS, 21, of Toronto is charged with possession of Cocaine.

Both accused appeared in court Thursday and were remanded into custody with future appearance dates.
