Two people, each involved in separate incidents, were arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired by drug on Wednesday August 12, 2020.

P20054644

The first driver was arrested after a Thunder Bay Police Service officer observed erratic driving behavior of a motorist at about 1:40 a.m. in the area of the zero-to-100 block of Clarkson Avenue.

During the subsequent traffic stop while interacting with the male driver, the officer noticed several signs of impairment.  The officer then requested the driver conduct a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST), the results of which led to the driver’s arrest on suspicion of driving while impaired by drug.

The driver was transported to the TBPS headquarters for further evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert. The results led the DRE to conclude the driver was impaired by drug.

The driver then refused to provide a sample of blood.

The driver eventually started heading southbound on Edward Street. TBPS officers located the driver on Edward near James Street.

When officers approached the motorist, they observed multiple signs that the male was impaired by drugs.

He was arrested without further incident and transported to the TBPS headquarters for further evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert.  As a result, a 40-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing charges of Impaired and Dangerous Driving.
