A Thunder Bay man initially charged with aggravated assault now faces a count of Attempted Murder amid an ongoing assault investigation into an incident that occurred earlier in August.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to a hotel room in the 1000-block of Dawson Road at about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 following reports of an assault that had just occurred.

Paramedics were attending to a male victim’s injuries when police arrived on scene.

Police learned a male had allegedly assaulted the victim, apparently unprovoked, with an edged weapon. The victim and accused were known to one another.

The victim sustained serious injuries, and was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further treatment.

A suspect was identified and later arrested on charges of Aggravated Assault.

Nicholas MORRIS, 37, of Thunder Bay, now faces a charge of:

• Attempt to Commit Murder

He still faces charges of Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2, Fail to Comply with Release Order, Robbery with Weapon, Obstruct Peace Officer.

He remains in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
