Police have made an arrest in relation to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to the area of Simpson Street and Pruden Street just before midnight on Thursday, January 25. Superior North EMS paramedics and firefighters with Thunder Bay Fire Rescue also responded.

The vehicle involved had fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers.

Emergency services located an injured adult male pedestrian. The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries that were considered life threatening, and has since succumbed to those injuries.

As a result of the continued investigation by the Thunder Bay Police Service's Traffic Unit, Major Crimes Unit, and Forensic Identification Unit, a suspect was identified. Officers located and arrested the suspect, and seized the involved vehicle.

Mario RICCI, 58, of Thunder Bay, is charged with failure to stop at an accident resulting in death.

RICCI appeared in court on Saturday, January 27. He has been released with conditions and a future court appearance date.
