Thunder Bay Police Service officers have arrested a 43 year old woman following a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Balmoral Street and Central Avenue.

Just prior to 8:30am on Friday June 21st, an on-duty Thunder Bay Police officer observed a GMC pickup truck travelling north bound on James Street at a high rate of speed. This vehicle travelled through a red light at the intersection of Redwood Avenue and James Street, nearly colliding with a crossing guard who was within the intersection.

The officer activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle however the driver failed to stop, proceeding north bound on James Street at a high rate of speed. The rate of speed the pickup truck was travelling at became a public safety concern which led to the officer discontinuing pursuit of the vehicle.

Minutes later the pick up truck was involved in a minor collision at the intersection of Balmoral Street and Hewitson Drive with a white SUV. The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene and continued driving north bound on Balmoral Street at a high rate of speed.

The pickup truck then collided with a blue Honda Civic within the intersection of Balmoral Street and Central Avenue before coming to rest in the ditch directly in front of TBPS headquarters.

The 43 year old Thunder Bay woman is facing charges of Impaired Driving by Drug , Dangerous Driving, Flight from police and Failing to stop at the scene of an accident. She remains in custody and is expected to appear in court Saturday June 22nd.

The driver of the Honda Civic was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center and treated for minor injuries.
