A 50-year-old man faces multiple charges after failing to provide a breath sample and being found in possession of suspected cocaine.

A Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit officer was conducting an impaired driving enforcement initiative when a westbound truck was stopped on Arthur Street around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26. The vehicle was the first one stopped during the initiative.

The driver ultimately refused to provide a breath sample and was arrested.

The investigation found that the driver had outstanding criminal charges, including a charge from May 2023 for failing to provide a breath sample. The driver had a suspended licence, the licence plates did not match the vehicle, the vehicle did not have insurance nor the required commercial documents and inspections, and was not properly registered to be on the road.

The officer also found that the driver was in possession of suspected cocaine.

The accused is charged with several Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and Highway Traffic Act offences and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
