In the spring of 2017 Zone Watch volunteers teamed up with Shoppes Drug Mart to host a prescription drug take back event.

Unused and expired medication taking up space in a person's medicine cabinet poses a serious health risk to the community. Someone living in that household could accidentally take that medication, or possibly even abuse it. Some medication can even be targeted for theft.

Disposing of this medication isn't simple. Flushing it down the toilet, a common method of disposal, is harmful to the environment as the medication finds its way into the water table. Medication thrown into the trash will end up in the landfill, posing a similar environmental risk.

Medication turned in during Zone Watch's prescription drug take-back event was properly disposed so that the community and environmental risks could be safely eliminated.
