TBPS Board welcomes new member

Georjann Morriseau was officially sworn in as a member of the Thunder Bay Police Service Board. The swearing in took place during the first ever TBPS Board meeting in Fort William First Nation. It was the first time in the board's history that a meeting took place in Fort William First Nations. Now a director of Indigenous and public affairs in the private sector, Morriseau served as a Fort William First Nation band councilor between 2011 and 2016, and held the role of chief between 2013 and 2015.

Ice Road Trip

On Family Day some of Thunder Bay Police Service's Community Service officers, with assistance from NAPS, ventured up the Winter Roads to visit some of the remote communities that depend on Thunder Bay for various services. While this was the first time the police service visited these remote communities via the winter roads, the practice of visiting remote First Nations has been an ongoing initiative for more than four years.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers took time to offer high fives and encouragement to Special Olympics student athletes who were participating in a basketball tournament at St. Ignatius high school.

Valentine's Day Surprise

It was probably the best Valentine’s Day ever for Thunder Bay Police Service School Resource Officers. Students and staff at Our Lady Charity Catholic Elementary School had requested the officers presence on Valentine’s Day, but unknown to the officers their presence was needed so students could present them with Valentine’s Day gifts and thanks.

Valentine’s Day Memorial Walk

Valentine’s Day is an important day in Thunder Bay as it is when the annual memorial walk to honour and remember missing and murdered Indigenous women. Girls, men and boys takes place. Officers participate in this walk in two ways: First, they ensure participants get through intersections together safely; Second, some officers walk with participants to honour the event.
