A police investigation into repeated commercial retail thefts has led to two people being arrested.

Thunder Bay Police Service received several reports of shoplifting incidents throughout the month of October involving the same suspect from a business on Main Street.

The reports led to the Break, Enter and Armed Robbery (BEAR) Unit to begin an investigation. Officers reviewed surveillance video footage of each incident and were able to identify a suspect.

BEAR unit officers were in the area shortly after noon on Monday, October 26, when the suspect attempted another theft. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

The accused individual has been remanded into custody following an initial court appearance.

While at the same location, BEAR Unit officers witnessed a second male attempting to steal items from the store. This suspect was approached by officers and attempted to run away but was caught and arrested.

This suspect had a judicial release order with a condition to not attend this business, along with outstanding warrants.

Darrell William MCDONNELL, 51, is charged with Theft Under $5,000, Resist Police, and Failure to Comply with Release Order.
