Thunder Bay Police Service

The Thunder Bay Police Service polices the City of Thunder Bay and the Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge, an area of 678 square kilometres. The recorded population is approximately 117,000. Thunder Bay has the highest municipal population in Northwestern Ontario, and the second highest in all of Northern Ontario.


The Thunder Bay Police Service team includes 255 sworn and 140 civilian members who are dedicated to serving the community. The Thunder Bay Police Service is headquartered at 1200 Balmoral Street. Some members and units work from other sites.

The Tree of Hope project began in Thunder Bay in 2019, to honour and raise awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit individual.
