Suspect arrested after police respond to weapons call

One person is facing charges after the Thunder Bay Police Service responded to a weapons call.
 
On December 2, 2025, around 1:15 p.m., officers from the Break Enter Armed Robbery Unit and Primary Response Unit responded to a call for service on Court Street South.
 
Once on scene officers located a male victim who had been stabbed multiple times.
 
The victim was transported to hospital for treatment, and they are currently in stable condition.
 
A search of the area resulted in officers locating and arresting a suspect.
 
As a result, 27-year-old Keenan MATTINAS has been charged with Aggravated Assault.
 
The accused was also identified and charged in relation to a robbery that took place at a convenience store on Cumberland St. N. that occurred on Nov. 25, 2025.
 
The accused remains in custody with a future court date.

The Thunder Bay Police Service continues to investigate the discovery of human remains in the Thunder Centre area. At this time, no information regarding the deceased individual can be released until their identity has been confirmed. The separate investigation related to an earlier police presence in the same area remains ongoing. A visible police presence continues, and members of the public are asked to avoid the area. The Thunder Bay Police Service is currently investigating the discovery of a deceased person. Human remains were located today in the Thunder Centre area. The Major Crime Unit is involved in the ongoing investigation. There is no threat to public safety. A separate investigation which was reported yesterday regarding a police presence in the same area is ongoing. Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to the area around 4:30 PM on May 21, 2026, in response to a call for service. There is no threat to public safety.
