SCAM ALERT: Threatening text messages

The Thunder Bay Police Service is advising members of the public of a scam that is currently circulating.

Police are aware that some local residents have been receiving aggressive extortive text messages claimed to have been sent by the boss of an escort service, threatening possible harm to the recipient and members of their family unless the provide payment.

 

Anyone receiving these kinds of messages should disregard them and not respond. Do not provide any form of payment.

 

The Thunder Bay Police Service’s Economic Crime Unit is urging family members and friends to speak to those who may be vulnerable to being targeted by this type of scam.

Update: Thunder Bay Police Service sudden death investigation leads to second-degree murder charge

TB25050184 A Thunder Bay Police Service investigation into a sudden death on the city’s north end has resulted in a second-degree murder charge. On December 25, 2025, officers responded to a 911 call regarding a sudden death on Regent Street. On scene officers located a deceased man. The Major Crime Unit became involved in the investigation. On July 30, 2026, officers arrested a suspect at the Thunder Bay Jail. As a result of the continued investigation, 65-year-old Anthony FRIZZELL of Thunder Bay has been charged with second degree murder. The accused remains in custody with a future court date. Another individual was arrested on July 8, 2026, with the assistance of the Break, Enter, and Robbery Unit. The accused is facing an accessory after the fact to murder charge. The unnamed accused’s charges have not been read in court as they have been released under an undertaking with a future court date. The investigation remains ongoing. No further information is available at this time.

Update: Thunder Bay Police Service locate prisoner escapee from local correctional facility

TB26029085 The Thunder Bay Police Service has located an escapee from the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre. The investigation began on July 24, 2026, following a report from the Correctional Centre. Officers located and arrested the wanted individual around 1:30 AM on July 25, 2026. The Ontario Provincial Police assisted with the investigation. No further information is available at this time.
