Thunder Bay Police Service Launches Toy Drive to Support Children Displaced by Wildfires

As our region continues to respond to the devastating impacts of ongoing wildfires, our community has come together to support families who have been forced to leave their homes.
 
To help bring comfort and moments of joy to children affected by these evacuations, the Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) is launching a toy drive for displaced children currently staying in Thunder Bay.
 
Community members are invited to donate new or gently used, clean toys, games and books that will be distributed to children and families impacted by the wildfires. Donations can be dropped off at the police station at 1200 Balmoral Street 24 hours a day.
 
"While we continue emergency management efforts and ensuring the safety of our community, we also recognize the emotional impact these events have on children," said TBPS Chief Darcy Fleury. "A simple toy can provide comfort, a sense of normalcy, and a reason to smile during an incredibly difficult time. We know our community will once again demonstrate its generosity and compassion."
 
Many families have left their homes with only the essentials, and children are facing uncertainty while staying in unfamiliar places. Through this toy drive, we hope to help make their experience a little brighter.
 
The Thunder Bay Police Service extends its sincere thanks to everyone who is supporting wildfire evacuees and encourages anyone who is able to contribute to help make a difference in the lives of these children.

Online reports lead to several charges following Patrol Support Callback Unit investigation

On August 1, 2026, the Thunder Bay Police Service received an online report regarding mischief that had occurred at a residence in the Arthur Street West area. A review of video footage led to a suspect being identified. On August 5, 2026, TBPS received an online report regarding mischief in the Price Arthur Boulevard area. A review of security footage led to a suspect being identified. On August 12, 2026, TBPS received an online report regarding mischief in the Fort William Road area. A review of security footage led to a suspect being identified. On August 18, 2026, TBPS received an online report regarding mischief and a theft in the Donald Street East area. A review of security footage led to a suspect being identified. On August 21, 2026, TBPS received an online report regarding mischief and a theft in the Fort William Road area. A review of security footage led to a suspect being identified. On August 25, 2026, TBPS received an online report regarding a theft in the Lillie Street North area. A review of security footage led to a suspect being identified. On August 31, 2026, TBPS received an online report regarding two cases of mischief that had occurred in the Selkirk Street North area. A review of security footage led to a suspect being identified. On September 2, 2026, TBPS received an online report regarding mischief that occurred in the Arthur Street West area. A review of security footage led to a suspect being identified. On September 7, 2026, TBPS received a report regarding an attempted theft in the Wiley Street area. A review of security footage led to a suspect being identified. On September 9, 2026, officers with PSCU and the BEAR Unit located and arrested the suspect in the Vickers Street North area. As a result of the investigations, 50-year-old Jason MORGAN of Thunder Bay is facing the following charges: • Mischief under $5,000 (nine counts) • Fail to comply with probation order (nine counts) • Theft under $5,000 (four counts) The accused was remanded into custody following their first court appearance.

Fraud Friday: Scam phone calls claiming to come from your personal bank

The Thunder Bay Police Service is warning residents about a recent scam that has been reported. Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) Patrol Support Callback Unit (PSCU) received a report on August 26, 2026, regarding a scam caller claiming to be from a resident’s personal bank seeking additional information. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the bank you use, hang up immediately and contact your bank directly using the contact number on the back of the card. Do not speak to the caller or provide any personal or account information. Report suspicious activity to the Thunder Bay Police Service. If you have lost money or disclosed personal or financial information, contact your financial institution immediately and report the incident to police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (https://antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm).
