UPDATE: Subject of planned high-risk arrest taken into custody

A police operation has concluded with one person taken into custody.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers conducted a planned high-risk arrest in the 200 block of Amelia Street West on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 22.
A police presence is likely to remain in the area as the investigation continues.
There is no current threat to public safety.

TB25050184 A Thunder Bay Police Service investigation into a sudden death on the city’s north end has resulted in a second-degree murder charge. On December 25, 2025, officers responded to a 911 call regarding a sudden death on Regent Street. On scene officers located a deceased man. The Major Crime Unit became involved in the investigation. On July 30, 2026, officers arrested a suspect at the Thunder Bay Jail. As a result of the continued investigation, 65-year-old Anthony FRIZZELL of Thunder Bay has been charged with second degree murder. The accused remains in custody with a future court date. Another individual was arrested on July 8, 2026, with the assistance of the Break, Enter, and Robbery Unit. The accused is facing an accessory after the fact to murder charge. The unnamed accused’s charges have not been read in court as they have been released under an undertaking with a future court date. The investigation remains ongoing. TB26029085 The Thunder Bay Police Service has located an escapee from the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre. The investigation began on July 24, 2026, following a report from the Correctional Centre. Officers located and arrested the wanted individual around 1:30 AM on July 25, 2026. The Ontario Provincial Police assisted with the investigation. No further information is available at this time.
